The Cyprus Youth Clubs Organisation (KOKEN) is the central coordinating body of youth clubs.

The Cyprus Youth Clubs Organisation, KOKEN as it is more commonly known, is the largest non-governmental, non-profit youth organisation (NGO) in Cyprus. It is the central coordinating body of youth clubs across Cyprus and was founded in 2008, at the time when the need for qualitative upgrading and modernization of the institution of Youth Clubs was identified.

KOKEN is dedicated to the development, coordination and promotion of Youth Centres. The mission of the organisation focuses on creating a dynamic environment that encourages volunteering, participation, education and social interaction among young people.

The purpose of KOKEN is to provide opportunities and possibilities for education, creating and managing opportunities and developing young people as active citizens. It sets objectives that include the development of skills, the promotion of social awareness and participation in activities that enhance personal, group and social development.

KOKEN is an organisation that, in cooperation with its members, governmental bodies, non-governmental organisations, the business world and civil society, designs, develops and promotes the implementation of effective measures to empower young people.

As an organisation, KOKEN is governed by its members and is also accountable to its members, guided by the principles of democracy, integrity and transparency.

We are voluntary, autonomous organisations created by young people for young people

We are the “Youth Clubs”. Each Youth Club is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit, non-partisan voluntary youth organisation created by at least ten young people aged 13-35. This group consists of people regardless of origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, socio-economic and/or educational background.

As Youth Centres we have a community and/or special character and we are members of the Cyprus Youth Centres Organisation.

Youth Centres are long-standing cells of healthy engagement in communities and remote areas of Cyprus, where young people have the opportunity to grow, mature, cultivate responsibility, take on administrative responsibilities and initiatives, coordinate activities and manage human relationships and interactions.

The empowerment of young people’s personalities and the fact that they work in a cooperative and organised way to achieve goals with a view to active citizenship are the most important achievements of the Youth Clubs. In Cyprus there are currently more than 70 Youth Clubs, members of KOKEN, which are divided into associations and informal youth groups.

YOUTH WORK in the Youth Clubs

At the Cyprus Youth Clubs Organisation we believe that every young person has the power within them to create, express themselves and contribute positively to society. Youth work is the framework that gives this power a voice, direction and substance.

Through experiential activities, workshops, participatory programmes and volunteering opportunities, young people develop life skills, cultivate self-confidence and cooperation, while learning to actively participate in decisions that affect them.

Youth Clubs are the natural space for this evolution: a space of inspiration, empowerment and social inclusion. Here, every young person can find opportunities, support and people who believe in their potential.

Youth work is the heart of KOKEN – because through it, we shape active, responsible and creative citizens who build a better tomorrow for all.

OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

As a Board of Directors we are elected every two years by the members of KOKEN. We volunteer in Youth Clubs and work for Youth Clubs all over Cyprus. We serve voluntarily and unpaid.

All of us are up to 40 years old on the day of our election and our term of office is two years.

No member of the Board of Directors shall be entitled to serve in the same position for more than two consecutive terms of office as defined by the principle of rotation.

EXECUTIVE SECRETARIAT

The Executive Secretariat of the Cyprus Youth Clubs Organisation is the cornerstone for the smooth operation and administrative support of the organisation.

Responsible for coordinating day-to-day activities, ensuring that all processes are carried out efficiently and on time. The Executive Secretariat is responsible for record keeping, correspondence management and the organisation of meetings, facilitating communication between departments and external partners.

In addition, she is responsible for drafting and processing official documents and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations. The secretariat also provides support to the organisation’s leadership, helping to make decisions and achieve strategic goals.

Through the effective management of her duties, she is instrumental in enhancing the efficiency and overall success of the organisation.
