The Programme
KOKEN as the coordinating body of the Youth Clubs and as the largest voluntary Youth Organisation in Cyprus, through its activities and discussions with young people (13-30 years old), identified an important problem: many young people do not actively participate in democratic processes. However, they express a strong interest in discussing corruption and transparency issues and in learning how to become active citizens, demand accountability, lead with integrity and support their peers.
The programme is aimed at young people (13-30 years old) and those working with young people. The programme will empower them with the knowledge and tools they need to support other young people, promote accountability and integrity, and increase young people’s participation in shaping transparency policies.
The project activities will provide a platform for young people to actively participate and express their thoughts. Through direct dialogue with decision-makers and transparency experts, young people will have the opportunity to voice their concerns. As youth participation is focused on action and expression, this programme will enable young people to raise issues, propose solutions and advocate for greater transparency in governance through consultations, debates and participatory activities. The project seeks to promote youth participation and support active citizenship.
Objectives of the programme
- To empower young people and youth workers, especially those from remote areas and/or with fewer opportunities, with the knowledge and skills that are beneficial to participate in democratic life.
- Educate young people on transparency, integrity and accountability through informal and non-formal learning methods.
- Create opportunities for young people to interact with policy makers and experts, ensuring that their voices shape future policies.
- To encourage the participation of young people in democratic life, especially in view of the Cyprus EU Presidency in 2026.
- Create information and awareness-raising campaigns and practical tools such as the Youth Democracy and Transparency Guide.
Duration
The programme will run for 24 months (September 2025 – August 2027).
