Migrant and Refugee Youth COMMunication and advocacy for equity and inclusion

    The Programme

MYComm aims to strengthen youth organisations committed to the integration of migrants and refugees by connecting them at EU level and enhancing their capacities to communicate and influence policies and public perception. It places particular emphasis on the audiovisual capacity of these organisations and the creative production of collaborative videos that tell powerful and personal narratives of young migrants/refugees. This is combined with the development of advocacy skills.

The partnership brings together 8 EU organisations widely distributed across Europe, with expertise in youth/immigration/audio-visual techniques and social inclusion. It builds on the extensive work of the partners in these areas and their complementarity. It includes EU youth organisations with a proven track record of leadership in advocacy.

MYComm will target youth organisation staff, empowering them with social networking strategies, creative communication techniques, audiovisual tools and public advocacy skills that will enable them to better address key policy issues on migrant integration and raise public awareness in general. Thus, it aims to build organisational capacity to change negative imagination towards young migrants/refugees and the impact on policies. The wide range of issues to be addressed include discrimination based on immigration status, nationality or religion, poor working conditions, lack of access to basic social services, lack of social protection and inadequate educational opportunities.

The project includes a series of training programmes, staff exchanges between youth organisations and co-creation in the form of a marathon and artistic video production. The selected youth organisations will also be invited to develop new social media strategies and sharpen their public advocacy on migrant and refugee youth issues. Youth production teams will create video artworks depicting the range of communities and stories of migrants and refugees across the EU and will be widely broadcast.
