Young people’s voices count when they have the tools and the opportunities to use them.

On 15 and 16 September 2026, members of Akrounta’s Youth Club took part in the Youth-ID Training of Trainers in Strasbourg, France, together with 18 youth workers from partner countries.

The training used non-formal methods. Participants worked on participatory design, advocacy, intersectionality and inclusive community planning, and came away with practical tools for helping young people identify their community’s needs and have a say in the decisions that affect their lives.

Youth-ID (“Building Youth Capacities on Inclusive Community Design through Participatory and Intersectional Training”) is an Erasmus+ project in which KOKEN is a partner. Across Europe, few young people take part in decision-making, and the numbers are lower still among those who are marginalised or underrepresented. Many of them face barriers to being heard. The project goes beyond traditional consultation and puts young people at the centre of shaping their communities. It uses capacity building, community mapping, advocacy and direct contact with policymakers to help them design community initiatives and influence local and European policy.
