Completion of the European project Arts for Soft Skills

The Cyprus Youth Clubs Organisation implemented as lead partner the European project Arts for Soft Skills: leveraging the power of interdisciplinary arts to strengthen young people’s soft skills in November 2023 until November 2024.

In cooperation with the Youth Information Centre – Municipality of Kordelios Evosmos – Greece and the Eastern Theatre Foundation – Poland, and funded by the Erasmus+ programme, the Arts for Soft Skills project focused on strengthening the soft skills of young adults, particularly in teamwork, adaptability and communication, using the arts.

Objectives of the project

To upgrade the soft skills of young adults (18-30) in communication and adaptability through the arts

To provide informal education to participants and provide opportunities for them to develop communication, participation, self-esteem, self-confidence and talent through the arts

Integrate the interdisciplinary arts in promoting and enhancing adaptability and other interpersonal soft skills needed in the workforce

Strengthen the skills of young people, helping them to align with workforce skills needs and improve their employability.

The main objective is to prepare youth workers and young people to use their skills effectively.

Target Group of the project

Youth Workers, Young adults aged 18-30 years, including: volunteers, artists, direct youth beneficiaries, people with limited opportunities seeking to improve their soft skills (communication, teamwork, creative thinking, adaptability, cooperation, confidence).

Young people from all over Cyprus participated in focus groups, pilot meetings and trainings, contributed to the creation of project outputs, enhanced their soft skills and raised awareness on arts and skills development.

Project results

The manual ”Arts and Skills Development: photography-painting-dancing” was created. The manual contains practices and resources on how the arts can be used to enhance skills such as communication skills, leadership skills, teamwork skills, problem solving, critical thinking, time management, empathy, empathy, sense of responsibility, integrity, self-esteem, self-management, flexibility, social skills and decision-making skills.

In addition, the project implemented the online campaign ”Arts for Soft Skills” which aimed to raise awareness about the use of arts in the development of soft skills of young people. Specific examples of how art contributes to strengthening skills were given for the arts of painting, dance and photography.
