MENTAL HEALTH AND YOUTH WORKSHOP

The Cyprus Youth Clubs Organization (KOKEN) organized the three-day seminar “Mental Health and Youth”, on Youth Mental Health with the support and funding of the Erasmus+ programme.

The seminar took place between 16-18 November 2018 and was attended by people aged 18-30 years old, members of the CNs and young people from all over Cyprus.

The topics presented and discussed by the trainers dealt with issues related to:

  • Informing and raising awareness of young people on mental health issues
  • Recognition of mental disorders (anxiety disorders, depression, panic, etc.)
  • Impact on young people (isolation, pessimism, sadness, addictions, suicidality, etc.)
  • Young people and sexual identity
  • Young People and Social Networks
  • How culture and education reinforces “stigma”
  • Relationships with others (family, friends, school, work)
  • Social and Mental Wellbeing
  • Managing and addressing harmful factors affecting young people
  • Prevention and Positive Psychology

The programmes used non-formal education techniques and methods of interaction between young people, exchanging ideas and discussion, thus enhancing communication and a healthy cooperative atmosphere.

The aim of the seminar was to inform and raise awareness among young people about mental health issues but also to identify the harmful factors that affect young people. Among the topics discussed were the influence of Social Networks on young people, the influence of culture, education and interpersonal relationships and the role of sexual identity.
