ACQUIRING SKILLS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

The cycle of our organization’s training workshops was completed for the year 2022 with the implementation of the programme “Acquiring skills for youth leadership”, between 17-18 December 2022, with the participation of 30 young people from all over Cyprus.

The programme was implemented in the framework of the European Year of Youth 2022, with the support of the Lifelong Learning Institute and the Office of the Citizens’ Commissioner.

Among the objectives of the project was to develop mentoring skills in young people and to improve the way they communicate and interact. It involved people who have a leading position in boards and committees or interact in voluntary youth groups or work with youth workers, with the aim of directly and indirectly having a positive impact on the way large numbers of young people manage and interact. At the same time, the programme sought to bring positive benefits on an individual level as it provided participants with the knowledge and skills to manage personal or professional dilemmas, to act and perform in the best possible way.

The implementation of the programme gave the young people who participated the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills that are considered to be essential elements for self-improvement and development both in a personal and group context.

Through practical exercises, role-playing and the use of various non-formal learning methods, participants focused on the skills and characteristics necessary for mentoring youth and youth groups and the ways in which communication and interaction can be targeted and effective.

The thematic modules of the programme included, among others: self-awareness, emotional intelligence/emotion management, empathy/active listening, body language and analysis of different ways of verbal or non-verbal communication.
