Agios Ambrosios was one of the progressive villages of Cyprus, where it had cooperative institutions, a sixth grade high school, a cinema and other modern establishments. In this progressive community, the young people of the village wanted their own place to gather, discuss, have fun and organise their own events. Thus, on a private initiative, they founded the first Youth Centre in the whole of Cyprus in 1966.

With the creation of the SN, the young people of the village wanted to have a voice in the village events and especially in the beautification and regeneration of the area around the church. In October 1967, the first statutes of the Centre were signed. The youth centre is registered under the Law on Liability. Gradually, it passed, under the supervision of the Welfare Office, the Cyprus Youth Board, the Cyprus Youth Organisation. Since 2008 she is a member of the Cyprus Youth Centres Association.

The young people of Ayambros gave the name “Prometheus” because as Prometheus stole the fire from the gods of Olympus and brought it to the people of the earth, so the young people wanted to declare with this name that a new beginning begins for the young people of Cyprus. With its establishment, the SN wrote a very careful constitution where its articles are still included in the statutes of the Cyprus SNs. Due to the non-existence of appropriate legislation governing the operation of the CN, it was registered as a legal entity with the Prefect of Kyrenia under the Law on Clubs. By 1974, a total of five CNs were established and the state enacted legislation for their operation.

Until 1974, the SN developed a rich activity in various sectors of the community, thus contributing to the cultural development of the community as well as to religious and national celebrations. Some of the groups that the SN maintained were the theatre, dance and football teams. Promitheas was reactivated after the invasion in 1978. Today “Promitheas” is not only the first SN founded in Cyprus but also the only one in operation from occupied Cyprus.
